Holiday let locksmith in Santa Pola, for the flat you don’t live in
Whether the flat is let by the week or waits for you from one holiday to the next, its locks get used by strangers or not used at all. Both wear them out.

For owners: cylinders changed between tenants or guests, a guest let in at check-in, a stiff lock sorted before the season. You can arrange all of it from abroad by WhatsApp or email.
The local picture
A town that is half holiday flat
Santa Pola has some 2,450 registered tourist apartments and around 1,550 homes registered as holiday lets, and in summer the town holds well over three times its registered population. Out of season it is the opposite: many flats along the beaches and many bungalows in Gran Alacant sit closed for months.
That rhythm decides the lock work. Every set of keys handed to a guest is a set that can be copied or lost, and every month without use lets salt and sand settle in a cylinder that nobody turns.
Between guests
Changeovers, key boxes and check-in lockouts
Changing cylinders between lets
When a long-term tenant leaves, when a key goes missing, or simply once a season, a new cylinder means every old key stops working. Doors that share a key, such as the front door, the terrace and the storeroom, can be done together on a lock change booked for a quiet weekday.
Key safes and keypad locks
The key safe screwed by the door and the keypad lock both fail in predictable ways here: dials that seize in salt air, codes that no one updated, batteries that die in an empty flat. Opened when they fail, and replaced if you want.
A guest who cannot get in
Arriving late from the airport to a code that does not work is the classic. With your confirmation by message, the guest is let in and the door left secure. How each kind of door is opened.
Second homes
A flat shut since last summer
Before you fly out, or before the first guests of the season, it is worth having every lock turned and checked: the street door of the block, your front door, the terrace slider, the storeroom and any safe. A seized cylinder is cheap to sort in April and expensive at midnight in July.
- Front-door cylinders cleaned or replaced.
- Terrace and balcony sliders freed and set to lock.
- Room and wardrobe safes opened and given new codes or batteries.
Why the coast is hard on locks: salt pans on one side, sea on the other.
Blocks and communities
Letting a flat in a block since April 2025
Since 3 April 2025, a flat in a community of owners needs the community’s express consent to obtain the registration number for short-term tourist lets, and a 2026 resolution on a case at a Santa Pola land registry applied exactly that rule. It is a legal matter for your administrator or lawyer, not for a locksmith, but it has a practical side at the door: who holds the keys to the street door and the pool gate, and what guests are given. What the rule changes at the door.

Questions from owners abroad
I live in the UK. Can you change the cylinders while the flat is empty?
Yes, if someone can let us in or the current key reaches us: a neighbour, a key holder or a management company. The new keys are left with whoever you say.
A guest is locked out and I am a thousand miles away. What do I send you?
The address with block and door, the guest’s name and phone number, and a message confirming they are your guest. With that, the guest can be let in without waiting for you to wake up.
Should I use a key safe on the wall, or a keypad lock on the door?
Each has its weak point. Key safes get forgotten codes and seized dials in the salt air; keypad locks run out of battery. Whichever you choose, keep a second way in that does not depend on it, and change codes between guests.
Do you look after properties, hold keys or do check-ins?
No. This is lock work only: opening, changing, repairing and checking locks. Key holding and check-ins are a job for a property manager.
